Adolphus Busch (1839-1913) mausoleum in Bellefontaine Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. This is the final resting place of the founder of Anheuser-Busch brewery. Above the entry to the mausoleum are the words: “Veni, vidi, vici” (I Came, I Saw, I Conquered). Bellefontaine is a very interesting place to visite and offers many photographic opportunities.

Eagle watching for its prey
Winter is Eagle weather for the St. Louis area. Eagles can be found along the Mississippi river, most notably Alton and Grafton Illinois and Clarksvill, Missouri. During the summer I see a lot of Eagles on the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Here is a photo taken with my old Pentax K100D with a Tamron 70 –Continue reading “Eagle watching for its prey”
More converging lines
Here is another photo with converging lines but in a different environment. Taken on a very foggy morning just hours before the snows arrived in Wisconsin’s Northwoods. Converging lines is a technique to draw the viewer into the photo. Also the fall color makes an interesting composition. On this morning I took a walk without aContinue reading “More converging lines”
Using wide lenses to add drama
I used to think that getting in tight on a subject may make a more interesting photo and, that may be the case. However, over the years I have noticed that the wide lenses add more drama and so I have been adding wider and wider lenses to my stock over time. This photo is ofContinue reading “Using wide lenses to add drama”

Lake Minocqua
I am busy preparing 6 years of photos covering the wonderful boathouses of Lake Minocqua (and a few others). Here is a sample of one of those structures with more to come in the next few days!
Calvary
I had to go out to one of St. Louis’ big cemeteries today so I thought I would post this photo of Calvary in North St. Louis. Neighboring Calvary and Bellefontaine cemeteries offer a vast amount of history from the midwest in addition to great photo opportunities. I recommend a visit.
Artist’s Barn
In Hermann, Missouri (Missouri’s wine country) there is an overgrown alley called Hollyhock Alley. If you venture up the steep grade, you will find this old barn along with some hidden Bed and Breakfasts.
Photo tip – invest in a good tripod
Tripods improve your photos by providing sharper images, by allowing you to take longer exposures in low light situations and allowing you to take photos in harsh environments. Tripods come in many different price ranges ranging from $30 to $500 or more! This is an area where you should not scrimp. A good solid tripodContinue reading “Photo tip – invest in a good tripod”
More from Downtown St. Louis
Here is another version of the previous post. This was a very rainy night that produced some great photos! This is a three shot HDR photo (ISO 100, f13) with an average exposure of 6 seconds. Processed in Photomatix and Lightroom.
