Out with her trusty hound

A lone woman with her trusty hound hiking through the woods. Actually she is part of the Gumbo Flats Gold Cup event where hounds show off their tracking skills. Today there are “12 couples” (24 Bassets) in field including Missouri’s Three Creek Basset Pack and Okaw Valley Foot Bassets from Ohio. Awards are given to […]

Dixie’s Portrait

I am working on my skills as a portrait photographer so I combined my interests: landscape photography and Basset Hounds and got this. Dixie is standing on an Adirondack Chair in an area overlooking Chesterfield Valley in St. Louis County. Dixie hates cameras and will not look at me. This was taken with a Nikon […]

Waiting for the judges

Two ladies showing off their Basset Hounds at a rural dog show in Weldon Spring, Missouri. The Bassets here will also show off their tracking skills in a competition pittingĀ  the Three Creek Bassets pack against the Okaw Valley pack, taking their handlers through creek beds, under barbwire fencing and up steep hills. It will […]

Sochii

Sochii is out with his pack combing through brush and undergrowth trying to pickup the scent of a rabbit. He usually hunts with a dozen other Basset Hounds and is part of a pack that belongs to Three Creek Bassets, a professional group of hounds that competes nationally. This is actually part of a sport […]

Hunters

After foraging through the woods in Weldon Spring, this group pops out on a country road. These hunters have a pack of about a dozen Basset Hounds and are part of Three Creek Bassets, a nationally known pack of scent hounds. Today they are trying to pick up the scent of a rabbit, track it […]

The Hunt is On!

This is part of the Three Creek Bassets pack that competes nationally in their hunting and tracking skills. This pack hunts every Sunday afternoon, September through April. Watching them get onto a scent and follow it is something to see!

The Creek

Basseting in Grubville, MO with 6 Couples (12 Basset Hounds). A local family loaned us their farm for the afternoon allowing us to hunt through the open fields, creeks and woods. The hounds spent two and a half hours in the fields before returning to the farmhouse for an early dinner before driving back to […]

Horseman

The family that runs Herbst Farms generously allow the Three Creek Basset hunting group to use their land twice a year. Everyone goes all out for an afternoon of chasing rabbits. The event usually requires 12 to 18 Basset Hounds to track the varmints. Since the hounds are off leash a group of people including […]

Basset Hounds

Many of our Sunday afternoons are spent in St. Charles County watching these hounds demonstrate their tracking skills. They are part of Three Creek Bassets, a professional pack of Basset Hounds that compete nationally. Their short powerful legs allow them to forage through dense brush where rabbits hide. Their goal is to track the rabbits […]
