Stormy Morning

A fall morning on Lake Michigan. This is an area near Cave Point County Park in Door County. The changing weather in the fall can make for dramatic photos. This photo was processed by Aurora HDR which allows for the various tones and colors to come through.

Gordon Lodge Pier

One of many iconic scenes in Door County. This is a pier at the entrance of North Bay near Baileys Harbor. The a beautiful fall day and sunset light gives a nice effect.

Fading of the Golden Hour

Last rays of sunshine transition from a colorful sunset to the blue sky of dusk. North Bay in Wisconsin shelters the waters of Lake Michigan so you have a slow rolling surf able to reflect the colorful sky. A special time to take photographs is during the “golden hour,” 30 minutes before and after sunset. […]

Top Deck

Top Deck Restaurant on the grounds of Gordon Lodge. When in Door County, Wisconsin, this should be a #1 spot for dinner. For being on the east side of the peninsula, it has wonderful view of the sunset. The evening we had dinner there, there was a continuous orange glow on the horizon.  This is […]

Range Light

This is not a school house and not a lighthouse. It is what is known as a “range light.” There are two lights, one at each end of the walkway in the photo. The other light (not shown in this photo) is near Baileys Harbor and when ships lineup the two lights, they have found […]

Morning in Door County

A quiet morning on Lake Michigan. This bay is shallow so there is limited boat traffic and sitting on the dock watching the sunrise is a must for this area. Also this is a bay which keeps the waves down. This is a three shot HDR photo taken on a tripod. See my HDR tutorial […]

Wilson’s Restaurant

Just around the corner from the Moravia Street Cottage mentioned in the previous post is Ephraim’s  iconic Wilson’s Restaurant in Door County. Famous for their ice cream, this is a great place to stop for lunch, desert or both! Then, down the road is Al Johnson’s Restaurant where they have live goats on the roof […]

Road to Northport

One of the keys to better photography is to go back multiple times. This is a scene I discovered in 2014 on my first visit to Door County, Wisconsin. This turns out to be a very popular view for photographers and artists to capture. There are always people in the area taking photos. My first visit […]

Wilson’s Ice Cream Shop

Wilson’s Ice Cream shop is an iconic business in the town of Ephraim, Wisconsin. It is interesting to photographers because of it’s bright colors, historic look and the angle it sits on the road. As you walk along the road, it takes on a different look. Be sure to see the photo in full screen. […]
