Range Light

This is not a school house and not a lighthouse. It is what is known as a “range light.” There are two lights, one at each end of the walkway in the photo. The other light (not shown in this photo) is near Baileys Harbor and when ships lineup the two lights, they have found the safe route into the harbor.

Morning in Door County

A quiet morning on Lake Michigan. This bay is shallow so there is limited boat traffic and sitting on the dock watching the sunrise is a must for this area. Also this is a bay which keeps the waves down. This is a three shot HDR photo taken on a tripod. See my HDR tutorial for more information: https://greatriversimaging.com/hdr/

Cave Point

On the Lake Michigan side of Door County you will find Cave Point County Park. This is an area of low bluffs along the lake that have been hollowed out by the waves. There are lots of scenic overlooks so if you visit, be sure to bring your camera.

Under way….

While heading out for some sightseeing with a friend, I notice this beautiful yacht go by. I suggested we go out into some very rough water to photograph the sailboat and the friend agreed. This is the is the result taken from a very bouncy platform! (1/500 sec; 105mm; ISO 320; f9)

North Bay, Door County

A shallow area on Lake Michigan allows these reeds to grow around this dock, giving a nice effect for this early morning shot. This is one of the many scenic areas in Door County, Wisconsin. A photographer should plan to spend several days to get a number of nice shots.

Eagle Bluff Light

A trip to Door County required a visit to a new lighthouse. Eagle Bluff Light is on the the Green Bay side of Door County. These place can be difficult to photograph because of all of the visitors and tours. A little patience will pay off.

Main Street USA

Main Street USA. Everyone in Harbor Springs, Michigan flies the American Flag adding to the atmosphere of this small town.

Daisies

During our recent visit to Michigan, we stayed in a little community called Wequetonsing. Most of the homes there faced Lake Michigan so I would get up early to walk along the road between the homes and the lakes. This is an amazing place with well maintained homes (cottages) and beautiful landscaping. This is stylized photo of some of the homes.

Sailboats

To get good photos you have to get up early to get nice light and color. Here I was up early walking along the lake and was able to catch the early sunlight breaking through the clouds and reflecting off the sailboats. Also, water is usually calmer in the morning making a more interesting photo.

This morning the sun broke through the clouds and it was a sunny day.

Public Pier

I like this photo of the Harbor Springs public dock with the two ladies taking iPhone pictures of the yachts and the sun setting through the rain clouds. Everyone comes out after dinner just to see what is going on.
