Old Courthouse
My hometown, St. Louis, with our old courthouse and the Gateway Arch behind it. The pathway here is part of the new Kiener Plaza (not sure what was wrong with the old Kiener Plaza). Lots to do and photograph in this area but be sure to get the Arch in the background! This photo wasContinue reading “Old Courthouse”

Drunken Fish
While walking around the Central West End in St. Louis, this looked like a pretty good subject for a photo. The Central West End has lots of interesting restaurants, stores and people. As noted in the previous photo, we had lunch at Llywelyn’s with my wife and our Basset Hounds and then walked for aContinue reading “Drunken Fish”
Llywelyn’s
On Memorial Day I took my wife and Basset Hounds to lunch in St. Louis’ Central West End. This is an eclectic area with lots of interesting restaurants, shops and people. Llywelyn’s is an old restaurant in the area with good food. While we had lunch, the dogs did a little people watching!
Alton, IL
The town of Alton, Illinois on the banks of the Mississippi. Previous photos were from South St. Louis County. This is on the edge of the northern border of St. Louis County near the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers. Truly great rivers!
A great place to watch the river roll by
This blog, Great Rivers Imaging, comes from the heart of the nation. The confluence of the Mississippi, Missouri and Illinois rivers is just a few miles north of this photo. This outcrop on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi is a great place to observe it all!
Morning on the Mississsippi
Early morning on the Mississippi. This is a scene from a retreat facility in southern St. Louis County. Set on a bluff above the river, the view extends for miles. Those that get up early enough, are rewarded by this spectacular scene. This was taken at: 17mm, ISO 320, f2.8, 1/125sec. This s a threeContinue reading “Morning on the Mississsippi”
Louis IX
Forest Park’s, and perhaps St. Louis’s, most famous statue is of Louis IX of France. This photo was taken in front of the St. Louis Art Museum early after sunset. To get the photo, a tripod was used and camera settings of 100 ISO, 18mm, f18 with the lens open for 13 seconds. The f18Continue reading “Louis IX”
Go back!
If there is a particular subject that you like, I suggest you go back multiple times to photograph it. The more you study a subject, the better your understanding of how to photograph it. One of my favorite subjects is a suspension bridge in St. Louis’ Forest Park. Below is a series ranging from 2008Continue reading “Go back!”
