The Gate

This is a gate to a private beach in an area of Harbor Springs, Michigan called Wequetonsing. This is a line of beautiful cottages along the harbor. One morning during an early morning stroll, as I was taking photographs like this, a man ran out of his cottage shouting: “are you a photographer?” I toldContinue reading “The Gate”

Sunset on Lake Minocqua

The iconic boathouses of Lake Minocqua create the character of the area. The lake is well known for its sport fishing. Also, the lake surrounds the town of Minocqua making the boathouses a major source of activity. Photographing the boathouses is best done by boat but a lot of good scenes can be captured fromContinue reading “Sunset on Lake Minocqua”

Minocqua Trestle

One hot summer afternoon in 1954 I was bundled onto a waiting train in St. Louis’ iconic Union Station. By noon the next day I was crossing this trestle leading to Minoqua, Wisconsin’s station. This was the beginning of my love of this small town in Wisconsin’s Northwoods. Minoqua is an Island City (town) surroundedContinue reading “Minocqua Trestle”

Another Red Door

Lemonade Stand

While poking around some side streets in St. Charles, MO I found this little display of a Lemonade Stand. No one was really there selling anything, it was just sort of an artistic display. There are a lot of antique shops in the area and this was to something to draw your interest.

Cave Point is full of low bluffs and water swirling under the rock. The rock piles are called cairns. These have become more numerousContinue reading “Stacked Rocks”

Red Door

This is part of  a long building that looks like an old barracks with a vegetable stand on one end. While our group was shopping for vegetables grown out back I walked around this building to get a bunch of photos of this interesting place. The owners could not figure out what I was doing.Continue reading “Red Door”

Golden Hour on Lake Michigan

Sunrise on North Bay near Baileys Harbor in Door County, Wisconsin. This view always has spectacular colors but you have to get up early to see them. However, watching the full moon come over the horizon happens in early evening, a much better time.
