A few minutes after sunrise on North Bay in Door County, Wisconsin. A great time and place to sit back and enjoy a cup of coffee. Perhaps heading out in the kayak afterwards?
This is near Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin looking out to Lake Michigan.
Ideas for places to visit in the Midwest
School House or Lighthouse? Note the bright light in the cupola. This is one part of what is known as a Range Light. This part of the light is back in the woods and the other part is is near a harbor. When a ship wants to enter the harbor safely, the mariner lines up the lights and then heads into port safely.
This particular light is in Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin. One of the many scenic lighthouses in the area.
You can visit a seaside resort in the Midwest by going to Lake Michigan and the best place to experience it is Door County in Wisconsin. The Cana Island Lighthouse shown above is near Baileys Harbor on the Lake Michigan side of the Door County peninsula. The area is full of many of these historic lighthouses and wonderful seaside villages.
This is one of many waterfalls in Dogwood Canyon. Called the Glory Hole, it is a 2 mile walk from the entrance to the Nature Park. However, the walk is past many multi story and low waterfalls. Also, low water bridges make for an interesting walk.

Here is a small boathouse on Lake Tomahawk in Minocqua, Wisconsin. Lake Tomahawk is part of a chain of lakes in what is known as the Lakeland area. The lakes are connected by a series of channels that allow you to visit neighbors by boat or tie-up in Downtown Minocqua for some shopping. Click here to see my full set of boathouse photos.
This is one of my first photos using HDR. The photo was taken handheld on a walking trail along lake Kawaguesaga in Minocqua, Wisconsin. My wife and I regularly walk this trail with our Basset Hounds during the summers.
The boathouses along the lakes add to the scenic nature of the area. The photo was taken at 240mm @ f18.
