In the 60’s, Wisconsin placed restrictions on boathouses in that state so they could not be rebuilt. The idea was to clear all of the lakes of boathouses over time as they deteriorated. Several weeks ago the governor of Wisconsin signed a law ending the draconian restrictions.

Sunrise
An early morning near St. Genevieve, Missouri. A sunrise or sunset can produce a wide variety of light from very bright to very dark. HDR photography can help record all levels of light and produce beautiful photos. This is a combination of three photos taken at different exposures and processed in Lightroom and Photomatix. AContinue reading “Sunrise”
More converging lines
Here is another photo with converging lines but in a different environment. Taken on a very foggy morning just hours before the snows arrived in Wisconsin’s Northwoods. Converging lines is a technique to draw the viewer into the photo. Also the fall color makes an interesting composition. On this morning I took a walk without aContinue reading “More converging lines”
Boathouses
Click here to see more detail These photos are mostly of boathouses on Lake Minocqua in North Central Wisconsin. Also several structures in St. Louis, MO and Ephraim, WI are included. Lake Minocqua
I am busy preparing 6 years of photos covering the wonderful boathouses of Lake Minocqua (and a few others). Here is a sample of one of those structures with more to come in the next few days!

A number of my photos and articles here have been about low light or night photography. I thought I would share one of my favorites. This is the Highway 51 bridge allowing access onto the island city of Minocqua, Wisconsin. This is the third bridge constructed here in my lifetime and I think the 6thContinue reading “Highway 51 Bridge”
Misty Lake
This is listed on my Smugmug page a one of my most interesting photos. So I am posting it here. This is Lake Minocqua around 6 AM on a very still and cold morning just before the snows started to fall. In the mist is one of the interesting old boathouses on the lake. FeelContinue reading “Misty Lake”
The Beacons
In a few short weeks this lake will be frozen solid until April or May. This is the Beacon’s Resort Boathouse, a very large structure which is a centerpiece of Lake Minocqua in Northern Wisconsin. An early morning during a heavy fog provided some surreal scenes.
Red Boathouse
You do not have to travel across country to visit a scenic area. One beautiful area in the Midwest is Northern Wisconsin and its Northwoods. Lake Minocqua hosts many attractive well maintained boathouses and is worth visiting just to see the these structures. Here is a large red boahouse that always makes a great subjectContinue reading “Red Boathouse”
