Old Barn

Wood Orcherd Market

One of many old barns in Door County. For photographers, there are great lighthouse, seaside and roadside attractions to photograph. The interior of Door County is dotted with scenic farms that make great subjects.

This old barn is in front of a sunflower field which makes it more interesting. If you are in the area bu sure to enjoy the interior subjects.

Life Saving Station

Washington Island, WI

This is a Duluth-type life saving station that began operations April 1, 1896, serving the Portes des Morts Passage (more commonly called “Death’s Door”) at the entrance to Green Bay. In 1939 a boathouse was added at the end of a 200 foot pier. In 1990 the U.S. Coast Guard abandoned the station and moved the crew to nearby Washington Island. In the background you will see Pilot Island Lighthouse.

This was taken from the Washington Island Ferry that runs from Northport to Washington Island.

Waterfall

Here is another photo of Bond Falls in Michigan’s UP. This is a series of falls ind in this one last drop over massive rocks in the end.

There has been a lot of rain this season so the rushing water is pretty spectacular. There are paths so that you can walk up along the falls to see lesser falls leading to this one.

Algoma Pierhead Lighthouse

Algoma Pierhead Lighthouse

The Algoma Light or Algoma Pierhead Light is a lighthouse located near Algoma in Kewaunee County, Wisconsin. The lighthouse was first established in 1893 as a set of range lights.

Sunrise on North Bay

North Bay

Sunrises and sunsets in the northern latitudes are spectacular due to the earth’s tilt on its axis. Also in the morning there is less wind on the lakes giving them a nice reflecting surface. North Bay on Lake Michigan in Door County is a small bay which has less wind on it making it pretty calm and a great placing for boating or just relaxing on the shore.

Marina

Sister Bay

Sunset on Green Bay creates perfectly cylindrical lens flare. The weather in Door County has been particularly rainy making photography a little hit or miss. Here the sun suddenly peaked out of the clouds to give a stunning sunset.

Sunflowers at Wood’s Market

Wood Orcherd Market

Early fall seems to be a good time to find Sunflowers in Door County. This is a field at the Wood Orchard Market in Egg Harbor. The market is busy with all kinds of home made food and other things.

Black-Eyed Susans

Off the Wheel Pottery

I live in St. Louis Missouri where the hot summers and humidity take a toll on plants. Traveling “Up North”: Northern Wisconsin, Door County and Northern Michigan, the grass turns greener and the flowers brighter. The cooler, moderate climate in these areas make everything come to life.

These areas are full for flowers and every scene makes a great photograph.

Easy Chair

Off the Wheel Pottery

The artwork of Off the Wheel Pottery of Egg Harbor, Wisconsin is not just contained within the buildings on the grounds. The buildings are interesting as well as this chair out front.

The peninsula of Door County is an artists haven where even some of the roads are designed by artists.

Off The Wheel Pottery

Off the Wheel Pottery

This is a pottery shop in an old barn in Door County. In fact, it is spread through this barn and a number of sheds on this old farm site. My wife likes to come here and shop while I walk around photographing the grounds.

The owner makes her own pottery and displays everything in these very well maintained buildings. I will share a few more photos of the place over the next few days.
