This is the opposite view of the previous photo. The memorial faces Kansas City’s Union Station and is on a steep hill so as you walk towards the memorial you can turn around for a spectacular view of the KC skyline. One of the best places to photograph the Kansas City skyline is from the International World War I Museum and Memorial. It is high on a hill overlooking Union Station with downtown nicely centered behind. It is a spectacular view!
After weeks of rain, snow and freezing weather for the past few weeks, it is time to get out into the countryside. Even in the dead of winter, there are beautiful colors and landscapes to photograph. This is a three shot HDR photo processed in Lightroom and Photomatix to help bring out the natural color and contrasts.
Out for our weekly trek with the hounds allowing us to visit the scenic countryside in St. Louis and St. Charles counties. Basset Hounds are bred to hunt rabbits and other small animals. The hounds are low to the ground and very powerful allowing them to move in and out of brush with ease. They unexpectedly disappear and then reappear from the hedgerow down the road. The rabbits always give the Bassets a good run but outsmart them in the end.
One of the “claims to fame” of my home town of University City, Missouri is that Chuck Berry lived near-by and performed here regularly. Here is a statue of him across the street from Blueberry Hill where you could find him about once a month until about the last year of his life.
The Mississippi River is a “flyway” for Ducks, Geese and many other migratory birds. During the fall the birds fly as through surreal painting. These guys are coming in for the night after flying hundreds of miles.
St. Louis Art Museum overlooks the statue of Louis IX and Art Hill. The museum is the “Crown Jewel” of Forest Park overlooking the site of the 1904 Worlds Fair.
Here is a hunter putting his decoys out in front of a blind. These days out in the country can be more scenic than expected with the contrasting colors and beautiful skies. Much hunting is done at sunrise or sunset providing a beautiful setting.
This is one of my favorite recent photos taken while observing these Basset Hounds showing off their tracking skills. When processing the pictures from that day I did not remember any bassets being chased by horses. What was happening was that, while cutting through this pasture, the Bassets were running to join another group of hounds and the horses were following to see what everyone was up to.
A friend let me stop by his farm to photograph the ducks coming in at night. This is an area in the Mississippi “Fly Way” that the ducks follow from North America and Canada. On this day these guys would have traveled hundreds of miles and by the time the sun sets, this waterway will be full of ducks. At night it sounds like a wild party where hundreds of people are having a very good time!
