Over the weekend I was honored to care for two lost Basset Hounds. This hound and his sister were found wandering around a nearby neighborhood. I am affiliated with a Basset Rescue group in the Midwest so I took them for a few days until they could be transferred to the rescue group. These houndsContinue reading “Basset on my chair”

Atheneum
In a contrast between the very old and the ultramodern, New Harmony’s Atheneum stands out as an architectural marvel. The Atheneum is the visitor center for New Harmony, Indiana and is named for the Greek Athenaion, which was a temple dedicated to Athena in ancient Greece. Even the old split rail fence contrasts the oldContinue reading “Atheneum”
Doorway
Note that this doorway leads from the outside to the outside! This is another entrance into New Harmony’s Roofless Church. New Harmony is full of very interesting architectural structures both very old and very modern.
Roofless Church
The “Roofless Church” in the town of New Harmony, Indiana on the Wabash River. The actual “church” is the entire plaza-like area within the brick walls as well as an area for looking out over a field that floods each year at least once. As the foundation which maintains it says, “Johnson and [client Jane Blaffer] OwenContinue reading “Roofless Church”
St. Louis
A helicopter view of St. Louis. I had the ability to fly with a group, “doors off,” to photograph our scenic riverfront. This gives immense flexibility to photograph your subject. You have to make sure everything is secure so nothing flies out of the cabin. ON this trip I used a wide lens to getContinue reading “St. Louis”

The light began operation in 1869, making it one of the oldest surviving lighthouses in the Straits. Only in operation until 1906, the light is located on McGulpin Point, approximatelyContinue reading “McGulpin Point Lighthouse”
The Gate
This is a gate to a private beach in an area of Harbor Springs, Michigan called Wequetonsing. This is a line of beautiful cottages along the harbor. One morning during an early morning stroll, as I was taking photographs like this, a man ran out of his cottage shouting: “are you a photographer?” I toldContinue reading “The Gate”
Five Mile Creek Schoolhouse
The Five Mile Creek Schoolhouse, located west of Harbor Springs on M-119 near Five Mile Creek Road, operated as a one-room school from 1915-1952. Over the years many different teachers educated a small group of students, fired the wood furnace, and cooked a hot lunch. This is on a stretch of road called Tunnel of TreesContinue reading “Five Mile Creek Schoolhouse”
Old Barn
This is just off highway 39, north of Bloomington, Illinois. Driving from Rockford to St. Louis, I kept seeing these very scenic old barns and finally found one that was easy to get to. The scene is great but the clouds make the photo!
Total Eclipse
Two years ago today we had a total eclipse of the sun in the St. Louis area. Therefore I thought it might be a good time to post this photo again. This was taken in Desoto, Missouri where we had a full two minutes and 30 seconds of time to figure out how to photographContinue reading “Total Eclipse”
