Bald Eagle

The Bald Eagle, our national emblem, is an easily recognizable and spectacular bird. It has a dark brown body and wings and a white head and tail. Its legs and feet are bright yellow, as is its large, hooked bill. Its piercing eyes are light yellow. Females are larger than males, weigh from 10-14 pounds,Continue reading “Bald Eagle”

Range Light

This is not a school house and not a lighthouse. It is what is known as a “range light.” There are two lights, one at each end of the walkway in the photo. The other light (not shown in this photo) is near Baileys Harbor and when ships lineup the two lights, they have foundContinue reading “Range Light”

Morning in Door County

A quiet morning on Lake Michigan. This bay is shallow so there is limited boat traffic and sitting on the dock watching the sunrise is a must for this area. Also this is a bay which keeps the waves down. This is a three shot HDR photo taken on a tripod. See my HDR tutorialContinue reading “Morning in Door County”

Sunset in the Northwoods

Wilson’s Restaurant

Just around the corner from the Moravia Street Cottage mentioned in the previous post is Ephraim’s  iconic Wilson’s Restaurant in Door County. Famous for their ice cream, this is a great place to stop for lunch, desert or both! Then, down the road is Al Johnson’s Restaurant where they have live goats on the roofContinue reading “Wilson’s Restaurant”

Northwoods Eagles

As mentioned in my previous post, if you missed the Eagles in St. Louis (Alton area), travel up to Wisconsin and catch-up with them there. Studies show that most of them live in Vilas and Oneida counties, many on Lake Minocqua. This photo was taken on the grounds of The Pointe Hotel and Suites whereContinue reading “Northwoods Eagles”

Road to Northport

One of the keys to better photography is to go back multiple times. This is a scene I discovered in 2014 on my first visit to Door County, Wisconsin. This turns out to be a very popular view for photographers and artists to capture. There are always people in the area taking photos. My first visitContinue reading “Road to Northport”
