Road to Northport

For landscape and travel photographers there are two “must have” scenic areas to visit in Wisconsin. One is the Road to Northport (also known as the Winding Road) and the other is Fredrickson’s Bait Shop on Star Lake. This is the Windy Road which is Highway 42 at the top of the Door County peninsulaContinue reading “Road to Northport”

Eagle Bluff Light

Eagle Bluff Lighthouse is one of many lighthouses in Door County. This lighthouse overlooks Green Bay and is near Fishcreek, WI. Door County is a peninsula that extends into northern Lake Michigan and is a mixture of pastoral farmland surrounded seaside villages.

The Beacons Boathouse

This massive boathouse on Lake Minocqua belongs to The Beacons resort. The boathouse was built in 1908 and can be seen from the town of Minocqua and the Bearskin trail. This lake is filled with the classic structures with this as the “crown jewel.”

The Thirsty Whale

This one of my favorite Minoqua, Wisconsin boathouse photos. This is not really a boathouse. It is the Thirsty Whale restaurant on the lake. It is a very old structure with some interesting neon lights that make it a great photographic subject.

North Bay, Door County

Beautiful scenes like this have been created heavy snows in North Central United States. It takes heartier souls to get up to these areas to capture the beautiful scenery. -Photo by Mary Beth Engler

Range Light

This is not a school house and not a lighthouse. It is what is known as a “range light.” There are two lights, one at each end of the walkway in the photo. The other light (not shown in this photo) is near Baileys Harbor and when ships lineup the two lights, they have foundContinue reading “Range Light”

Morning in Door County

A quiet morning on Lake Michigan. This bay is shallow so there is limited boat traffic and sitting on the dock watching the sunrise is a must for this area. Also this is a bay which keeps the waves down. This is a three shot HDR photo taken on a tripod. See my HDR tutorialContinue reading “Morning in Door County”

Lumberjack Steam Train

In Laona Wisconsin, you will find the Lumberjack Steam Train. This actual steam train will take you back in time to an actual logging camp in Northern Wisconsin. This is the back-end of the train disappearing into the woods.
