Sunset over Strathalbyn

Another beautiful fall sunset in the Midwest. This well and the stables beyond are part of an old club in St. Charles County. The property is along the Missouri River and served as a family farm in this rural section of Weldon Spring before World War II and before the bridge across the Missouri RiverContinue reading “Sunset over Strathalbyn”

Sunset at the Hardy

There is always something interesting to find in Door County. This is the Hardy Gallery an art gallery on Eagle Bay located in an old boathouse displaying various types of art. To make things more interesting, the building is covered with graffiti (mostly peoples names). After viewing art, you can walk around the building andContinue reading “Sunset at the Hardy”

Gateway Arch

St. Louis’ Gateway Arch is a 630-foot monument in St. Louis, Missouri. Clad in stainless steel and built in the form of a weighted catenary arch, it is the world’s tallest arch, the tallest man-made monument in the Western Hemisphere, and Missouri’s tallest accessible building. The Arch gives St. Louis a stunning cityscape and is somethingContinue reading “Gateway Arch”

Memorial

You cannot tell from this photo but this is a steep incline leading from the station up to the memorial. See the previous photo for theContinue reading “Memorial”

Sunset on Lake Minocqua

The iconic boathouses of Lake Minocqua create the character of the area. The lake is well known for its sport fishing. Also, the lake surrounds the town of Minocqua making the boathouses a major source of activity. Photographing the boathouses is best done by boat but a lot of good scenes can be captured fromContinue reading “Sunset on Lake Minocqua”

Subtle tones

I really liked the soft tones of some photos I have seen and I have been looking for ways to accomplish the effect. What I found was that you really have to take these photos during the “Golden Hour.” That is, take your photos about 10 minutes before sunrise/sunset to 10 minutes after. The lightContinue reading “Subtle tones”

Sunset at Chaumette

This is one of my all time favorite photos from Chaumette Winery. One day I rented one of their villas and captured this sunset photo from the porch. While Chaumette is in the Missouri Ozarks, this is an area of low rolling hills but the height of the property gives a spectacular view. This photoContinue reading “Sunset at Chaumette”

On this Veteran’s Day, remembering those who lost their lives in the service of our armed services.
